Watermelon is a very popular plant. It is edible and contains approximately 92% water and 6% sugar. The rest are protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Watermelons are rich in vitamins A, B, and E, as well as potassium, copper, iron, manganese, magnesium, zinc and sodium. Watermelons are characterized by a high content of carotenoids, lycopene (hence the red color of the flesh), lutein, cryptoxanthin and zeaxanthin.
Watermelon has been known and cultivated in Poland since the 16th century. Watermelon is an annual, monoecious, dioecious plant - which means that male and female flowers grow separately on one plant. Pollination takes place with the participation of insects (mainly bumblebees).
Proper pollination is very important in the production of watermelons, as the flowers are fragile. They open briefly, usually after sunrise, and this is when pollination is most effective. The availability of the sun improves the accumulation of sugar in the fruit.
The Agro-Paprix farm offers various types of watermelon.
Out of concern for the natural environment and care for providing consumers with the highest quality products, we have undergone GLOBAL G.A.P. certification.
In cooperation with Koppert, we introduce ecological solutions on our farm, aimed at reducing the use of chemical plant protection products.
